I came across this reading shortly after my first day of grad school and have had to revisit it multiple times since then. There have been countless moments of worry and fear as I’ve been learning how to effectively treat my clients while also evaluating my own life and experiences that impact the way I function as a therapist. I have a habit of putting a great deal of energy and time into worrying about “tomorrow” and not being able to handle difficult situations that MAY occur, long before they even happen. This causes me to be only partially present in today and I miss out on the joy that I could be experiencing RIGHT NOW!

Sometimes we think worrying and obsessing about the future may give us some sense of security or preparation, but really it is doing the opposite. It leaves us feeling more insecure and fearful and it robs us of the true security and peace that comes from dwelling in God’s present presence. Join me in leaning into the promise that God is in control and that He is always with us. Cast your worries onto Him and live abundantly in His glorious presence TODAY. Perhaps “living abundantly” is simply being; being fully present, being yourself, being in relationships, etc… BEING IN TODAY.

How can you begin to focus on God’s presence in the present today?
